Today’s New York Daily News reports that new “speed camera” devices are being installed around New York City. They can determine a car’s speed, take a picture and send a ticket to the driver. So far, only six cameras have been installed around the city as part of Mayor de Blasio’s “Vision Zero” campaign to reduce pedestrian accidents. But, over 900 drivers have already been fined. There are already plans for up to 20 more of the devices to be installed around the city. It seems likely that it will only be a matter of time before the program will be put in place by cities upstate and the Capital Region.
